Red Vineyard I painted this vineyard just before the leaves began to turn and fall, when the vines were at their fullest and the grapes had either just been harvested or were about to be picked. It was just before sunset, with the sun dropping low in the opposite direction. It was also fire season in California, and smoke filled the atmosphere, turning the sun red and blasting the sky and landscape with warm, reddish hues. I exaggerated those colors in the painting, pushing the reds and warmth to capture the intensity of the light and smoky atmosphere. There is something beautiful about this brief moment in a vineyard, full, ripe, and abundant, just before everything begins to change. Harvest Time!
